Freediving is a sport that involves diving to depths while holding our breath using no breathing equipment. Our bodies are naturally equipped with the mechanisms needed to dive deep while holding our breath. When our faces are submerged in water, a physiological response called the mammalian dive reflex is triggered to help our bodies manage the lack of oxygen while underwater. Freediving has introduced me to a whole new world that exists under the Ocean’s surface.
